Photographing Glass

Image
For the first photo I took I sat a Gin glass on a sheet of glass that had a black surface underneath it, when I had this set up I put a sheet of white paper directly behind the Gin glass. The lamp I used had an adjustable shade on it so I pointed it towards the white wall behind the Gin Glass (as shown in the below photograph). This was the photo produced when I followed the above steps. I like this photo more than the one further below because I think it has more of a warmer tone. For the next photo I done pretty much the exact same steps but instead of having the lamp face the wall I adjusted it so that it was shining against the white page. This was the photo produced when I adjusted the lamp to the opposite angle. It is a bit brighter than the first photo that was produced.

Product Shot Assignment - Proposal and Research

Image
The first product image that I chose was from this Coca Cola campaign. "Share a Coke" was the name of this campaign and was a massive success. I remember everybody wanted a bottle with their name on it when it first came out. The ice cold bottles have the names of sunny holiday destinations written on them and the way the photographer put the bottles in sand under the sun makes it have a really summery feel. The second photo I decided to choose was a campaign for Marc Jacobs perfume - "Daisy". I think this is a great shot because it's exactly what you would expect a perfume called Daisy to have for an ad, the bottle in a flowery field on a sunny day. I also like how they included a person in the shot holding the bottle. The final product I chose was this campaign for Clinique. The choice to have a plain white background makes it a great photo as it makes the green, blue, orange and purple really stand which is what I think the photographer wanted. The ...

Lab 3 - External Flash

Image
The first task I chose was when I bounced the flash head off the ceiling. In the first of these two photos the flash was facing the subject and it came out very bright and overexposed. When I pointed the flash up towards the ceiling it came out way better. The second task I chose was a portrait shot using bounce from behind the camera. To complete this task I stood with my back against a white wall, I turned the flash attached to my camera so that it faced the white wall so that it would reflect. I think the final outcome came out quite well.  The final task I completed was using an external flash. We set up a flash head on a tripod so that when I took my picture this would go off at the same time as the flash on my camera. In the first picture of the two the camera was too the right hand side which is why only hal...

Lab 2 - Flash Control

Image
The first photo that I chose was taken using slow rear flash, with this it makes a movement in your photo and I was happy with how it worked in my one. In the second and third photos in this task I took my photos using regular flash. In the first one we had to take a photo that was overexposed, in the second, using settings we had to balance it out so that the subject and the background were both equally exposed. The final photo I chose was one I took out a window, it took me a few photos and I had to change setting a few times before I got to this. I like how you can see the colour of the sky and the clouds so well behind the trees. I didn't notice until after that you can see the reflection of the flash through the window so if I was to do this again I would make sure to check this.

Lab 1 - Natural Light

Image
The first picture that I chose was one taken for Step 2, in this we had to put our subject at a 90 ° angle parallel to the window while looking at me. The reason I chose this photo was because I think its quite different to the other ones that I took, it's a darker feel as it was taken indoors whereas the other ones are bright. The second and third pictures that I chose were taken for Step 5, in photo 2 I used reflection and in photo 3 I used diffusion. I chose to include these photos because I didn't think the reflector would actually work so well as I had never used one before but looking back on the photos you can see how much of a difference it actually makes. The final photo that I chose was taken for Step 4 in which we had to show the main characteristics of light. For this photo I worked on direction and had the subject standing in front of the son and facing me - because of this there is no light at all on the face but you can see it on her hair ...
